Got Goals? Read this First.. PDF Print E-mail

Would you like to guarantee reaching your goals this year? Then don’t forget to get a strong rope, a hammer & some tough rock piercing nails, we’re going goal climbing.   You see, reaching a goal is a lot like climbing the face of a vertical cliff. It is not enough to just have the motivation, energy, knowledge and skills.  You need a strong rope to hold on to. And that rope better be securely nailed into the rock such that it can not only break your fall incase you slip but, also hold your weight long enough for you to get a hold of the rope and start the climb again.

Got a new Goal?

Would you like to guarantee reaching your goals this year? Then don’t forget to get a strong rope, a hammer & some tough rock piercing nails, we’re going goal climbing.   You see, reaching a goal is a lot like climbing the face of a vertical cliff. It is not enough to just have the motivation, energy, knowledge and skills.  You need a strong rope to hold on to. And that rope better be securely nailed into the rock such that it can not only break your fall incase you slip but, also hold your weight long enough for you to get a hold of the rope and start the climb again.

In this metaphor the rope represents a strong & crystal clear vision. The nails symbolize absolute commitment. And the hammer represents powerful & consistent effort.  Without these three components you will never reach the top of the cliff; namely your goals.  Before you start climbing, make sure your rope – the vision of accomplishing your goal – is a powerful & meaningful one.  When you close your eyes and see yourself as having achieved your goal, you should feel excited, joyful, proud and absolutely ecstatic.  Your vision has to be strong enough to not only continue to pull you up but also hold you in place when you “slip” , get tired or let go of it temporarily.  And as you start to climb, periodically you need to stop, take your hammer & re-commit; nail the rope into the rock. In other words, you need to take powerful & focused effort (the hammer) and continuously make an absolutely unwavering commitment (the nails) to hold your vision (the rope) in place so you can use it to reach your goal (top of the cliff).

I went mountain climbing recently and trust me, after you slip a few times and notice that the rope holds every time, the fear, agony, and disappointment is slowly replaced by a powerful resolve, inner confidence and believe it or not a lot of fun. Next thing you know, you feel like conquering another mountain; a more challenging one.
